leave laptop computers unattended, they are
the top theft item in the workplace.

leave your keys lying about.

Office
equipment should be engraved with company
name and an identification number.
Record the serial numbers of all
office equipment.

Never
leave reception areas unattended.

Keep
secondary entry doors to your suite locked
at all times.

Only
assign keys and key cards to individuals who
actually need them.

Have
a procedure for collecting keys and
deactivating key cards of employees leaving
the company.

Lock
your doors when you are not open for
business.
Do not leave your suite unlocked
assuming that janitorial or security will be
along shortly.

Have
one person responsible for ensuring that
entrance doors to your space are secured
after the majority of employees have left at
the end of the work day.

Check
the identity of any strangers who are in
your office - ask, “May I help you?”

Be
suspicious of service and delivery personnel
with whom you are not familiar.
Ask for identification or valid work
orders. Question anyone that attempts to enter secure office areas.

Trust
your instincts.
If the situation appears to be
abnormal, it usually is.

Notify
security or building management of any
solicitors or suspicious persons.
